The public library of Hannover, consisting of 1 central library and 17 district libraries, has selected Nedap as its supplier for the implementation of RFID security gates as well as all the RFID self-service equipment, such as check-out stations and automated check-in & sorting systems.

RFID solutions in libraries

RFID – Radio Frequency Identification – is a technology which uses communication via electromagnetic waves to exchange data between a terminal and an electronic tag attached to a library item. When libraries do not use RFID and self service, library staff need to check-in and –out items themselves. The RFID solutions for libraries enable a patron to check out their own items. As a result, check-out queues are shortened and the patrons’ privacy is granted during the check-out process. Additionally, staff can spend less time on repetitive activities, which lowers health risks and increases service levels in general. Depending on the system set-up, libraries can also use RFID to extend opening hours, enable 24/7 book return, improve logistical efficiency and expand their geographical reach.

The public library of Hannover has chosen Nedap for its unique product portfolio, cost-effectiveness and broad international experience in the RFID library market.
